Team Overview
  • The On-Desk Equity Front-Office Development team works directly with equities traders and sales traders across Asia to deliver technology that enhances execution workflows, automates desk processes, and provides actionable analytics.
  • Operating as a business-side development function, the team works in close proximity to front-office users and benefits from streamlined processes and rapid iteration cycles.
  • In addition to ongoing initiatives for all Asian desks, the team is currently building the new technology platform that will support the recently announced SMBC Nikko Jefferies Joint Venture.
Location
  • Tokyo or Hong Kong preferred
  • Other locations in Asia might be considered depending on the candidate
Reporting Line
  • Reports to the Head of On-Desk Equity Front-Office Development, based in Tokyo
Role Purpose
  • This role focuses on designing, developing, and supporting front-office software used directly by equities traders and sales traders
  • The team typically receives high-level business needs - not detailed specifications - and is responsible for analyzing the functional gap, proposing solutions, designing the system, and delivering production-ready components
Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with front-office users to understand high-level functional needs and translate them into actionable technical designs
  • Develop, integrate, test, and deploy components across both the legacy platform and the new platform currently being built
  • Provide support, ensuring system reliability and fast turnaround on business issues
  • Deliver new applications and workflow tools supporting equities activities across Asia
  • Contribute to the full development lifecycle, from architectural discussions to production support
  • Scope of responsibilities and level of ownership will depend on the candidate's seniority and experience
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (3 considered, 10+ preferred)
  • Experience working on a trading desk or in a front-office environment
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-pressure trading-floor conditions
  • Strong communication skills for direct interaction with traders and sales traders
  • Knowledge of equity cash and/or equity derivatives (highly preferred)
  • Japanese language beneficial but not required
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Java, including Java 8 and Java 21
  • Experience with Java Spring framework beneficial
  • Experience with modern web frameworks such as Angular or React
  • Familiarity with AWS-based environments: EKS (Docker/Kubernetes), MKS (Kafka), ElastiCache (Redis), Aurora PostGress, S3
  • Solid SQL knowledge
  • Python optional but beneficial
  • KDB/Q optional but beneficial
