Senior System Engineer - Electronic Trading / Investment Bank / 100k-140k per month
I am currently helping our client seeking a Senior System/Network Engineer to join the team in Hong Kong.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and manage an ultra-low-latency trading network connecting colocation data centers, major exchanges, and internal offices across APAC.
- Oversee exchange colocation operations at key financial venues, including rack installation, cross-connect provisioning, and direct connectivity for market data feeds and order entry.
- Design, engineer, and support a highly resilient, optimized multicast network for efficient market data distribution; fine-tune routing protocols to deliver deterministic, minimal-latency paths.
- Implement and maintain Precision Time Protocol (PTP) infrastructure to achieve precise clock synchronization across the entire platform.
- Lead the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and continuous optimization of critical network infrastructure.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for network hardware, software configurations, and telecom circuits.
- Rapidly analyze and resolve network incidents with accuracy; produce detailed reports, root cause analyses, documentation, and training materials as needed.
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all electronic market network assets and infrastructure.
- Ensure full compliance with internal Group policies, IT Security standards, and Global IT Infrastructure & Platforms (ITI&P) governance; validate designs and operations accordingly.
- Guarantee reliable network performance in APAC electronic markets, balancing business needs with local regulatory requirements.
- Leverage advanced network monitoring and troubleshooting tools to proactively identify and address issues.
- Provide on-call support during morning shifts, weekends, and public holidays to maintain 24/7 trading operations.
- Travel occasionally within the APAC region to support data center deployments and projects.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
- Strong familiarity with financial data center environments and the exchange colocation ecosystem.
- Expert-level proficiency in multicast and advanced routing protocols.
- Deep expertise in high-performance, low-latency switching hardware and network optimization techniques.
- Solid experience in Linux/RHEL system administration, preferably in high-stakes trading or real-time application environments.
- Good understanding of x86 server hardware, NICs/server networking peripherals, and data center infrastructure setups.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills, including system recovery, root cause analysis, remediation, and effective coordination with vendors and remote teams.
- Ability to deliver clear, balanced, high-quality technical guidance and analysis to application development teams and business stakeholders.
Qualifications & Profile
- Hands-on experience in network services, ideally within low-latency trading, high-frequency trading (HFT), or financial markets environments.
- Relevant vendor certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA) are highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated with a proactive, self-starter mindset.
- Comfortable performing under pressure and handling time-critical incidents.
