About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive, highly motivated and results-oriented Senior Treaty Underwriter to join our P&C business line. You will be part of a nimble and entrepreneurial team to be responsible for portfolio construction, underwriting, and client management activities in various Asian markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities with existing and new clients and markets to grow the P&C treaty business.
  • Perform end-to-end underwriting analysis for proportional and non-proportional treaty business, including pricing, contracts review and treaty structuring.
  • Evaluate and assess risks in accordance with company guidelines and standards, make underwriting decisions within given authority level.
  • Negotiate new business, apply consultative sales techniques to identify clients' needs and deploy services as applicable.
  • Build, maintain and further develop a strong internal and external network, including relationships with clients, brokers, and industry associations.
  • Anticipate and meet the needs of clients, maintain an excellent line of communication and relationship with them.
  • Anticipate and analyze future industry, economic and market trends, transfer know-how, coach and train colleagues in areas of own expertise.
  • Help maintain a sustainable portfolio and enforce a portfolio steering culture by contributing to efficiently obtain profitable business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or above, with major in actuarial science, or statistical analysis, or any other business-related discipline including finance and economics.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry, of which 8-10 in a treaty underwriting role.
  • Understanding of the end-to-end reinsurance value chain and possession of relevant market knowledge.
  • Solid quantitative/analytical skills, underwriting judgement, and experience with risk selection/evaluation as well as a flair for wording issues.
  • Client focused (understand needs and act on them), with strong communication skills.
  • Advanced consultancy skills, coupled with financial acumen and relevant corporate finance knowledge are considered a plus.
  • Strong negotiation and sales skills, ability to successfully handle conflicts, at ease with leaving the comfort zone and to navigate ambiguity.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset (sense of urgency, cost consciousness, personal risk taking, adaptability, versatility), committed to sustainable performance and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Creative thinking capability and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese.
