Description

We are looking for a motivated professional to join BBVA Asias Credit Risk team as an Associate, focused on Structured Finance. In this role, you will support the credit risk assessment, structuring review, and ongoing monitoring of Structured Finance transactions, primarily across Project Finance (with a focus on energy, infrastructure, and TMT sectors) and to a lesser extent Asset Finance (aviation and shipping). The position is based in Hong Kong, working closely with senior risk colleagues, front-office teams, and internal stakeholders, providing independent credit assessment and effective challenge to ensure transactions are aligned with the Banks risk appetite and credit standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the credit risk assessment and approval process for Structured Finance transactions, primarily Project Finance (including greenfield and brownfield projects across TMT, infrastructure, energy, renewables, and natural resources), and to a lesser extent Asset Finance transactions (aviation and shipping), from early screening through financial close and post-closing monitoring.
  • Contribute to maintaining the overall credit quality and resilience of the Structured Finance portfolio, in line with BBVAs risk appetite, sector strategies, concentration limits, and sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and market conditions, identifying emerging risks and potential impacts on existing and prospective Project Finance exposures.
  • Calculation and assessment of project risk profiles by assigning credit ratings and estimating PD and LGD, in line with internal methodologies.
  • Preparation of reports and presentations to be delivered to different stakeholders.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in Project Finance, Structured Finance, Credit Risk, or related roles within reputable financial institutions, advisory firms, or rating agencies.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Solid understanding of Project Finance structures, financial modeling, and risk allocation principles. Familiarity with TMT, infra and energy sectors.
  • Good knowledge of banking products, credit documentation, and risk management concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under firm deadlines. Ability to work under pressure being a team player.
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel for financial analysis and navigating through financial models.

Language

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English (additional languages such as Spanish or Mandarin are a plus).
