About the Role

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced manager to oversee billing and collections operations across its Asia offices. This role manages a team of billing professionals and works closely with partners to drive the revenue cycle—from WIP management through to final collection. This role will require a Mandarin speaker with at least a few years people management experience.

Summary of the role and key responsibilities

  1. Supervise the end-to-end billing and collections process for the Asia region
  2. Manage complex billing arrangements, including multi-jurisdictional tax applications (withholding tax, GST/VAT)
  3. Work directly with partners to review WIP, resolve billing issues, and drive collections
  4. Prepare and review client bills, write-offs, transfers, and retainer applications in compliance with firm policies
  5. Monitor accounts receivable aging and implement collection strategies to minimize DSO
  6. Ensure compliance with the regulations from the Law Society of Hong Kong
  7. Maintain awareness of Anti-Money Laundering regulations as they relate to client accounting
  8. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of billing coordinators across multiple Asia offices
  9. Set performance goals, conduct reviews, and address performance issues
  10. Foster strong working relationships between the finance team and the partners
  11. Maintain and optimize workflows within the firm's practice management system
  12. Collaborate with regional and global finance teams to align processes and reporting
  13. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and implement procedural changes

Requirements

  1. Minimum 8 years of relevant experience within an international law firm
  2. At least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role, with demonstrated success in leading teams and managing partner relationships
  3. Proficiency with practice management system and advanced MS Excel skills
  4. Strong knowledge of billing processes, collections strategies, and client account analysis in a law firm environment
  5. Familiarity with the Solicitors' Accounts Rules of the Law Society of Hong Kong understanding of tax applications (withholding tax, VAT/GST) across Asia Pacific jurisdictions
  6. Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin (written and spoken)
  7. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  8. Must possess the right to work in Hong Kong
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—able to influence and build credibility with partners
  10. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  11. Discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters
