hi,

I am going to relocate to HK soon and I am thinking to bring my cat with me.

I am thinking how big the flat should be to have 1 cat + 2 people?

Our cat is used to running in the flat where we live now..but I am not sure if we can provide him the same big place when living in Hong Kong...

I am glad that you are thinking of bringing your cat to HK instead of leaving it behind. Your cat would be happier to remain with you and most cats adjust to a new flat well, regardless of the size. Older cats tend to spend most of the day sleeping so just need a comfy place to rest.

We have 4 cats in a 3-storey village house and they tend to stick to one floor instead of using the whole house so size really is irrelevant. Things to watch out for though - living in a high rise and having open windows that your cat can fall out of. Everywhere that we've lived have had mosquito screens on the windows for keeping out mossies and keeping in our cats.

If you end up living in a village in the New Territories (like in Sai Kung), remember that cats that live outdoors tend to get killed by the village / stray dogs around, so keep your cat indoors.

Other than that apartment living is ideal for cats and yours would prefer to move here with you I'm sure. We brought 5 cats with us from Australia and one was 14 at the time. He survived in 2 different new places in HK for a further 7 years before passing away last year.

Good luck!

Agreed - we have 3 cats in 900 sq ft. And a great vet if you end up on HK Island. 9 Lives Cat Clinic.
