ORIGINAL POST

My daughter would like to fly her 2 rabbits from Australia to hk as she's returning to work here. They are about 5 years old.

Has anyone attempted that before ?I don't know how well they travel as it's a 9 hour flight and any recommendations of relocating agents who deal with rabbits ?

Any info is much appreciated.

Dear Delightful,

yes it is possible to import pet rabbits into Hong Kong, a specific HK import permit is required and they will need health certification within 3 days of departure from Australia, but it is fairly straightforward.

The only specific requirement is that it must be certifed on the health certificate that the rabbits " have been kept indoors for six months or since birth prior to shipment in an establishment where no case of rabies was reported during that period" This is a general clause for HK gov't -Australia is free of rabies so there is no real problem with that requirement.

Regarding the flight , they need to be in an IATA approved travel crate (I would recommend separate cages) Rabbits are by nature nervous animals and a flight like this would be quite stressful, possibility of injury exists if they become frightened.

My company (PetExportVet) can assist you if you need any further advice . Feel free to PM me.
