Heartguard plus for puppies

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

I've adopted a 3 month old puppy, and I'm getting her tomorrow, and I already have all the medicine she'll need like drontal and frontline. The only thing I need now is Heartguard plus, but I can't find it anywhere.

If anyone knows where I can get a box, please let me know.

Thanks

My dog has an annual injection for heart worm, but he had to have a blood test before he could begin having the injections to make sure he wasn't already infected. You could ask your vets.

Hi Leli

You will find Heartgard Plus at most vet clinics and you should be able to buy it over the counter. However, if your new dog is 3 months old, then she will need to visit the vet at around 5 months to have the rabies vaccination and microchip (this is a HK government requirement). You can safely wait until 5 months to start heartworm prevention. The annual injection is a great idea, but depending on the vet, they will only do the injection when your dog is between 6 - 12 months old.

Best of luck with your new puppy,

Trilby
