walking the dog beware

I have noticed in my area that dogs are walked twice a day by philipino maids or gardeners. However the walkers meet up a little way down my road and sit down and play cards and chat etc out of sight.


These dogs get a terrible life generaly, some housed in cages others left to lie on hard concrete all day, surely they deserve a proper walk.


If your maid isnit sweating at least a little when she comes in something is up?

Dogs need at least two proper walks a day. If they dont get that they tend to do poo and pee all over the garden house/flat and could also become obese.


If walking the dog is included in a maids duties then thats what they should be doing. Leaving dogs tied up in the hot sun while they sit and socialise is as far as Im concerned showing not only that they couldnt give a toss about the welfare of animals but also for their job.

Ys Cara I agree. They also as far as my experience is concerned recieve unfair and cruel beatings as a result. It is often said that middle class= awareness for a dogs (pets) well being but truly I can say also from experience that Tycoon, middle class= nothing of the sort. Dogs get an incredibly bad deal. im not sure why this is but dogs are often seen as an embellishment to wealth and horribly neglected to any standard. When I see the maids following suit it turns my stomack.

That is of course a big generalisation as people are becoming more and more aware of animal welfare, however there is a long way to go as allways.

And get thrashed half the time for exhibiting natural behaviours. Ages ago I witnessed a lovely Borzoi get belted across the face (after the owner frantically wiped it's face with a towel) because it sniffed the ground where my dog had just peed! I've seen owners swith into panic-mode if their dog sniffed another dog's rear end, and get hit for it. Maybe the maids don't get such a rough time of it after all.

What the F..... is a borzoi doing in Hong Kong in the first place. These dogs do not like hot weather at all and need to run run run everyday least a few miles. They are also extrmely sensitive and loving. To bash one in the face would be to ruin its free gay denemour forever. I kept borzois and I needed to take them out running free twice a day with me on a horse, I lived in the highlands of Africa, the rest of the dy the pack had 6 hectrs to play in.


Certain breeds just have to be banned from appartments here. Do any othese people actualy know what these animls are bred for. There are plenty toy lap dog breeds and mixes available which might find a couple of walks a day sufficient. I honestly do not know why you did not report her, its the only way.


In HK I keep a little smuggles it looks like nothing I've ever seen but its the light of my life.


God sake punishment has never worked in training a dog anyway, positive reinforcement yes, and borzois who can get carried away in the chase respond extremely well to complicted vocabulary of high pitched whistles keeping them always in contact with your voice, to this may be added an assortment of high pitch gurggles and screams, your lungs need to be very healthy.

i find metal whistles dont work well, as the borzoi doesn't recognise the sound as coming from you.


I know exactly what Borzois are doing here its for the show, real or simply ego. Show dogs or status symbols or both. Never for the actual purpose they were bred for. I must say I blame exporters for this as well, treating dogs like a commodity. All the borzois I have seen in HK have been extremely weedy bad examples that couldn't race a mile if they tried, not only that but the feathering in this heat simply doesn't grow so they end up looking like they are constantly sweaty wet and bare.
