On Sunday (17 Oct) night around 8 pm, while we were walking around Lei King Wan (East Soho?) in Sai Wan Ho area, my husband and i saw a little brown pomeranian, he was following random people and running around the place looking lost, he crossed the road a couple of times and that got me worried. So I went and picked him up, he was friendly, no collar, with some sort of an eye infection in one eye. We walked around all the restaurants there and asked any security guard that could understand a little english if the dog looked familiar and if they knew the owner, no answers. So we brought him home (Grand Promenade), we have a cat who was freaking out :-), gave him some water and food, which he had. After some research on the net, we called the AFCD hotline, which was really not helpful at all since they didnt seem to understand the situation and after trying to explain several times and only getting the answer cannot help you now, i gave up with them. Then called the SPCA emergency helpline, the person there was very prompt and helpful and said I should take the dog to the closest police station and they would pick the dog up from there. So off we went at about 9 pm to the the Shau Kei Wan reporting centre with the little dog. The cops there were really amazingly helpful and even though the language barrier came up, we managed to explain the situation, they then said we need to leave the dog with them, they would in turn send the dog to AFCD for scanning of any microchips to trace the owner. They took my husbands details (HKID) and gave us a reference number to follow up about what happens to the dog. Really helpful and the officer who took down the details and explained all this to us (little broken english, but we understood just fine, and we were just grateful that the dog would be in the right hands), he even sat down with the dog and was petting and talking to him as we were leaving, wish I couldve taken a photo! After leaving the station we got 2 calls from the police saying first the dog was going to AFCD and they gave us the contact number then again a little later that the dog was finally going to the SPCA and also giving us the number. So they updated us, even though we didnt expect it. Hats off to the cops, am sure this was a trivial matter in their busy day, but they showed so much concern and care, it was heart warming.
Sorry for the really long post! But its also a little manual for anyone reading this who finds a lost dog, this should help you with what you need to do and what to expect. We being quite new in HK figured this out through the net. And PLEASE also anyone out there who has lost a dog in the area that fits the description please get in touch.
The dog is currently at SPCA and I called them today to check, they said the dog was doing fine, but that they were still looking to trace the owner. Any help will be really appreciated.

Well done for looking after the poor thing! And I hope this serves as a reminder to all dog owners to get the dog micro-chipped!
