I recently applied to become an IELTS examiner with IDP here in HOng Kong. I have 16 years teaching experience and am here in Hong Kong as a Net teacher in Government schools. My qualifications are pretty good - to a Masters level in Education. However, they rejected my application out of hand - no interview, no explanation as to why I was unsuitable.
Can anyone offer any insight into why this would happen. Also does anyone know of any alternative approach to getting the qualiication I could try>
Many thanks
Interested to read your posting as I had a similar experience applying in HK. 10 years teaching experience (5 in ESL/TESOL)B.Ed Eng. + post grad dip. etc and was refused application outright, no explanation forthcoming. Was very surprised...
I have subsequently heard back from British Coucil that they are beginning a course in December and that the requirements are in fact changing before then. Still miffed but in a way it has just strengthened my resolve to get into it. Just annoying somewhat
I think you need formal qualifications in ESL to become an IELTS examiner
I have a Masters of Education in TESOL I thought that would be as formal as it gets what else might they be looking for?
