I'm a UK parent. We have 2 girls age 3y & 2y who attend international school, English/Mandarin (50/50). Our kids are developing bad spoken habits and feeling a little bit ostracised, so we are desperately looking for a playgroup with a large mix of "pure" english speaking kids. We've visited several playgroups, but kids tend to play/speak offline using Cantonese, which is not what we're looking for .... "watch out Tom Cruise!, mission impossible". We are on a very low budget so parent-run playgroups would be ideal (e.g. parks, etc), but would also consider paying if that's what it takes. We are prepared to commute to either HK/KLN side for the right thing ....... " H E L P ! ! ! "

Hi, I have a 4 month old baby and am facing a similar problem cause I don't know anyone here. There is no one to interact with. Which side do you stay. I am putting in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long.

The United Services Recreation Club runs a parent and toddler group (although its open to any child until they start school, and in the holidays older siblings still often attend). Tues and Fri mornings 9.30 - 11.30, $50 a session for 1st child, $20 2nd child. Very informal, lovely outside play area. Many nationalties but mainly English speaking. People attending come from all over HK, including DB, Lamma, Sai Kung/Clearwater Bay etc. Ask for Nicola when you go.

Try HKPPA, they have play groups for both parents and helpers. I go with my youngest (2 years) and have met lots of great Mum's, all English speaking. There is a fee but I can't recall the amount, sorry. HKPPA's details are in the school section of this site.

Have just been up to the USRC playgroup to catch up with some friends even though my child is at Kindy now, and from next week the price is going up to $60, staying the same for the 2nd child. That does include, tea, coffee, biscuits and squash by the way.

Hi All, this is my 1st time using this website service - I didn't expect feedback this quickly, hence the reason for my late response, ever so SORRY. Hey, lot's of superb suggestions from you all, Cheers!. I'm currently living in Lai Chi Kok, but as mentioned earlier, for the kids we will consider commuting. Although our preference is "parent-managed" freebie playgroups, thanks to you all we also have some good leads to follow up on (USRC, HKPPA) and I'm optimistic there will be more to follow shortly. I shall continue to monitor this thread for further updates. Much appreciated !
