Did anyone go through the same problem trying to decide which was a better school/education system?

That is Australian Int'l. Forest, there are many considerations: are you Aussie or a Brit? Which curriculum most interests you? How about school calendar? AISHK is on the Aus. calendar... Holidays are much different. Also, how old is you child and where does their birthdate fall? Jan. or Dec. or ? Will you child be in the youngest part of the class or the oldest? The year below? Where will you transition to after HK? Which is most convenient location for you now?

Obviously more considerations than this, but obviously depends on your personal circumstances...

Forest,

I looked at both for my son aged 5.

The waiting list at AISHK was like two years or more.

Also the consideration for me was that it followed the NSW School system ,whereas we are from Western Australia.

My son started school P1 in Septemeber, but under the Australian system he would not have started until Feb 2007.

I chose ESF , because of dates he was well and truly ready to go to school.

Location, too far to go to AIS if living on HK Island.

When I rang each school to find out further information I did not get a good feeling or response from AIS at all. On the other hand ESF , Glenealy School, were fantastic and provided so much inforamation and recommendations it was great. They were very welcoming and I liked the idea that if they couldnt accommodate at one location they would help with another, so taking away the worry of waiting lists.

My son was at a private girls (coed for preprimary and kindie)in Perth and I have found ESF far better. Maybe not as structured if you want immaculate school uniforms etc. and aesthetics, however the quality of teachers and the care, has been far superior.

Hope that helps.

Ditto salnic.....i have a child who attends Beacon Hill (patr of the ESF system) and have nothing but praise for this school and it's staff.

The teachers, deputy principals and principals doors are always open if you queries and nothing is ever too much trouble. the school has just unveiled a new uniform (which is so so so smart) and i believe they are about to introduce the PYP of learning and this can only increas the schools prominence.

My child has just excelled since starting 2 years ago, i know i not only speak for myself but from other parents who are more than happy with everything and everyone to do with this school.

To jag.123

I find your comment interesting.

I have looked at Aust Int over several years and am now in a situation where it may need to be an option for my daughter's secondary education.

When I took a recent visit to the school I noticed that there was only one library and there was a junior and senior class in the facility at the same time. I also noted the pool is outdoors and so closed for winter. I also note the school has many students and am concerned that the school may be over subscribed.

Feel free to pm if you can shed some light on it.

Thanks crazyhk

Sorry, I did not mean many students in number I was concerned at the stretch of the facilities for the children attending. Whenever I have been there it just seems busy and four classes in one library sounds a bit chaotic to me.

I had heard of concerns about limited subjects in secondary school a few years back and was hoping this had changed.

Thanks for the information, it is all very helpful.
