Family just recently moved in Ocean Shores. Would like to try their Mon-Thur playgroup but was wondering if it's any good or if there are other English playgroups around. I heared there are 2 instructors and they are not exactly native english. I got some mix reviews.

smluck, at last someone living in Ocean Shores (I posted a thread some time back in 'Playgoups' looking for mummies in this complex)! There are several playgroups in the clubhouse so not sure which one you are referring to. I did some enquiring myself when we moved in two months ago and the playgroup for under 2s (my daughter is 18-mo) did not get good reviews. You are the best judge so why not obsreve the class through the glass panels? There is a YWCA just downstairs of us and they have an english panda playgroup. Not bad but not as good as those in Central. I passed by several playgroups in Hang Hau, TKO shopping mall and Po Lam but not sure how good they are. I like YWCA cos it is so near. How old are your kid(s), mind I ask?

I've asked about YWCA but they have a waiting list. And I don't want to have to go a long way. I just want my 2 year old daughter to play with other children. And I work from home so I'd rather stay closer. I've watched the playgroups. The Tues-Thur class was quite calm. A bit too boring. The Mon-Wed one was quite interesting. I saw them take a stroll with paper dogs in hand. Found it funny. But then I spoke to a friend who's friend joned and she didn't like it at all. But by the looks of it I think that mother doesn't want a filipina teacher. Any thoughts about this? I wouldn't really mind whoever teaches as long as it's worth it.

Sorry smluck for late reply. forgot abt this thread.

Don't think it is the issue of the nationality of the teacher (BTW she is mixed pakistani, not filipino, not that it matters). My filipina helper herself told me she doesn't like the teacher 'cos, her exact words, 'she was lifeless and slow'. I talked to several mummies and helpers in my daughter's YWCA playgroup who had enrolled in the Ocean Shores playgroup before and none liked the classes much. Same comments. Having said that, you are right - it is close by and your kid gets to play with others. I think that is why their classes are still full despite the negative reviews. My duaghter, for one, plays the least attention to her teacher in YWCA preferring to play with the other kids.

I must say that the teacher in YWCA is not that fantastic either, thought dedicated. often times a replacement teacher comes along and her english is rather poor but I don;t really mind, so long as my daughter enjoys herself (I have to pry her away from hanging around the room after class sometimes!) and my helper also made good helper friends, the latter is quite important for the wellbeing of my helper.

My daughter goes down to the playground twice a day and I find she really picks up things and actions - jumping, catching ball, etc - watching other kids. Since you work from home, why not bring your daughter down too? I live in Tower 16 and there is a huge playground next to us, often times kids would blow bubbles, kick a ball, play badminton etc. The sunshine and fresh air are fantastic. We moved from Central recently and love every bit of the freshness and greenery!

hello mummybee1. Thank you so much for replying. My helper and I tried the Mon-Thur classes in Ocean Shores. We've decided to take the Mon-Wed class. I spoke to the teacher. She's quite young. A little messy but the kids seem to enjoy her company. And in my opinion she really cares for the kids. I don't know why but in a way I connected with her. I felt bad about the comments that I've heared about her but I guess everyone is entitled to their thoughts. We tried the YWCA but I feel that the Ocean shores Mon-Wed class is more personal. Very family like. I think we'll give it a go for a month and see how it goes. Thank you for your reply and hope to see you around. And yes I feel very previledge that my husband finally opened his eyes and left the busy and crazy life of WANCHAI. I wanted Sai Kung but I'll take what I can get. Take care mummybee1.
