Regulations with tutoring

The Education Department has clear regulations regarding the operation of schools offering non-standard curriculum.

It is illegal to have more than 19 students in a premises for taught lessons during any one day (with some exceptions such as dance, music, art, etc) without being a registered school.

If you have a work visa, you can only do extra paid work with the premission of the immigration dept.

You also must declare your extra income and pay tax on it. This iwll require you to keep good records.

I would also warn that inviting people into your home opens you to all sorts of problems: what would you do if someone accuses you of doing something improper...I would think twice if I were you as it is not as easy as you think.

Further to Nikki's reply....there is a very fine line between 'Interest Classes' and regular structured classes.

I'd be interested here if anyone has taken the EDU to task re 'Interest Classes'.

Dance, music, historical talks I can imagine are easy to define but what about fun science classes for kindergarten? It's touchy feely and not exactly too structured.
