Extra Curricular Activities

Primary kids in HK seem to be soooo busy with afterschool/weekend activities. Is this healthy? Shouldn't we just take them to the park??

Just wanted to see what the norm was here for international school children.

Looking for feedback/opinions on what your kids are taking for sports, music, art, etc.

My son does football tues, thurs for 1 1/4 hours each, football sat for 2 1/2 hours, and rugby sundays for 2 hours. Other nights he plays out in the street with the neighbours, or has a playdate or goes for a swim.

My daughter does gym 1 day a week for 1 hour, tap dance for 45 mins, and football on sat for 1 1/2 hours. Still leaves lots of time for playing.

But I know some kids that have an afterschool activity everynight.

I find after school activities as the best and in some ways only way to get access to good facilities so kids can learn sports & skills. It is also a great social network for them - either through clubs or non school centres - pretty much the norm.

I also think that this is an issue in HK as kids often get shipped around to multiple after school activities. The way i see it is, at primary age, if they enjoy it let them go!

My kids have joined classes in with minisport and we have been really happy with them. The kids love the coaches, also their equipment and courses seem very professional.
