Which school for Kiwi kids?

We're looking at moving to HK as part of a job transfer. While I understand every family (and child) is different and we've not made any decisions on where we will live, can anyone advise what the best schools are?

I have heard AIS is good and that ESF is a next best option. The main concern would be to see our 8 and 10 years old settle in quickly.

Finally - are local schools worth considering?

If you are still at the negotiation stage with your job transfer, you could ask them to assist in getting your kids into schools by providing a school debentures. I believe that debentures only apply to International Schools but there was talk of ESF doing the same. They can be very very expensive (like in the millions of HK$). Some companies have them already and can be transferred to new employees. Otherwise I agree with the above re schools being a big consideration for someone wanting to make a move to HK. Not just that they are hard to get into but also fees are very expensive - over NZ$1000 a month per child at the International School we looked at and that was just for a 3 year old.

PS saw your thread asking about housing options in HK. I am a kiwi too so if you want comparisons to the NZ way of like then send me a PM and I'll share my experiences here

AIS? American International School? There are other threads mentioning this school - don't think there are (m)any native speakers there, it takes mostly ESL kids. Local, Japanese, Korean and Indian predominate.

Kia Ora!

Have a look at Bradbury School (ESF primary school) on Hong Kong Island (near Happy Valley) - it covers the southern side of HK.

The principal and many of the staff are Kiwis so there shouldn't be any language problem ;)

It's a good school with a good reputation (my kid went there).
