Does anyone know how to go about a TESOL certificate? Is it a must that I have to be registered with a tuition centre? I should be able to pass without going for lesson. Can I just apply to sit for the exam?

You can obtain a TESOL certificate via courses on the internet, but I don't know if they are genuine. I don't think there is an exam you can 'just sit'.
That said, I did my TESOL last year with English for Asia - it was an intensive course over 4 weeks. I was very very impressed with the setup and support. Again, no exams - it is based on assignments and practical teaching experience.
