Hi Guys,
I'm new to HK from London and want to learn Cantonese - thinking of private lessons at home 2-3 times a week for convenience.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

I'm a foreigner who speaks very fluent Cantonese. I even have a blog where I explain how I did it and put up content.
You CANNOT just find a random native speaker and hope they can magically GIVE you Cantonese knowledge / fluency.
Here is a good place to start: http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/phorum/
I've met at least 15 westerners who've come to Hong Kong with the intention to learn Cantonese. They got Pimsleur, they got the books and finally after 4-5 years still cannot speak more than a few basic words. Why? You need to have true motivation and proper methods to learn.
You do NOT need a teacher at a novice level. Educate yourself on correct learning methods by searching on google for: eg. Krashen, Steve Kaufmann
What you need is comprehensible input and lots of listening repetition. Don't be fooled by the need to output anything early. Learn correct JYUTPING and learn the tones. Any so-called tutor who DOES NOT know the 6 tones can not teach you Cantonese!
The cost for a Cantonese tutor is $100/hour private lessons who know tones. You don't need to pay more than this price and more expensive doesn't make it any better.
Anyway, enough of my preaching. Hope you are one of the very few successful Cantonese speaking foreigners. Whatever I said above comes from experience, learning from my and other people's mistakes. Good luck.

Hi,
I'm a native Cantonese speaker, been lived in London for over 15 years, my husband is from London, we now live in HK. I am more than happy to provide assistance in learning Cantonese for free. My husband lives here for over 2 years and he can manage the basic conversations in Cantonese by practising and understanding the use of words.
I am not a tutor, I only started teaching my husband how to read food menu and it works from there. If you are serious about learning, I have materials to help and give you some ideas about Cantonese speaking.
I work part-time so do have flexiable hours to spare. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Please message me if you want to practice cantonese to a native speaker :) I won't offer you serious classroom teaching but do give you an opportunity to practice your cantonese in a free environment.
