Can anyone recommend a good SAT Prep school in HK? Would like to attend over upcoming summer hols. Actually, is it necessary to attend such prep schools? I heard you can take SAT as many times as you like and choose the best scores for Uni application?
Thanks!

I have experience preparing students for the SAT (I scored in the 99th percentile on the verbal portion of my own exam). To answer your questions: It may or may not be necessary to do a prep course, this depends on the student and what kind of a score he or she reasonably expects to achieve. Details about how and when to take the exam, score reporting, and exam fees are available at the College Board's website. PM me if you would like more information.

I'd recommend NTK Learning Center. They're the most established center in Hong Kong for SAT, AP, IB, etc. The have their own publishing and consulting services too - pretty much a one stop shop.

I am an American PhD student in Hong Kong who is available for SAT tutoring after Jan 12, 2012. 7 years experience of AP and IB English teaching in the US, Europe, and HK. Experienced with SAT, English, French, and general writing tutoring. I am pleased to offer tutoring for the entire SAT test, having received a 780/800 on the math section and perfect score on the math IIC subject test some years ago. CV, references available upon request. Small groups also ok.

Hi, I wouldn't recommend prep school for US college applications as don't believe they help your children much with the hype they advertise. I'm definitely a fan of private tuition.
My son who is currently studying in UPenn was coached through his U.S. college applications and essay prep through personal one on one tuition from a family friend from an ivy league background who was very passionate about helping my son through the whole process. At the time this was quite stressful and worrysome for us (my son's SAT scores and grades were not optimal and to be honest I originally wanted to apply to lower tier universities at the time). However, he convinced us to apply to several top tier colleges and after a few months of coaching and tuition with my son we sent in all the applications with fingers crossed. We were so happy to recieve the acceptance letters from almost all of the colleges we applied to (in addition my son was also accepted into Brown, Georgetown and Carnegie Mellon). Needless to say I'm very thankful for his help.
Please do note that while I am overjoyed with the fact that my son is now studying at an ivy league university, the coaching process was not easy and he had very high expecations of my son throughout the whole process. Countless redrafts of essays and application questions took a toll and there were times my son wanted to give up because he had difficulty handling the pressure (since we weren't anything paying for his tuition I didn't want to feel unappreciative by asking him to stop), but in the end I'm glad that we had the help.
If anyone has kids who are applying for universities next year who need some guidance and coaching, I'd be more than happy to make an introduction through e -mail (for the sake of privacy I'm not going to post any of his information on the forum). Just message me, but please remember that it would be an introduction only as I don't know if he is still doing any coaching.

I helped a 13 years old girl improving her writing score from 6 to 10 in 3 months; I am not a teacher nor professional tutor. But I can make thing happen. I may consider to offer help if someone is interested. Proof of score can be provided. Ciao...

I have extensive experience teaching test-prep classes (TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, IELTS, etc...) at both Kaplan (for about 8 years) and The Princeton Review (for about 4 years) and a couple of other places, as well as delivering English-language training to corporate clients. I've coached quite a few students through the college application process (securing admission to Ivy League colleges), as well. I took my own SAT test a year early and with the flu, yet achieved a perfect verbal score and missed only one math problem. As a college student, I trained and worked part-time as a language-teaching assistant in two languages, including teaching English to foreign students. I've also done professional writing and proofreading for a Los Angeles-based publisher, and more. I can help your children to score higher on their tests, and increase their chances of admission to a better college. If you are interested, message me through this website.

Hi Sophia
I am a recent non-local graduate from the University of Hong Kong. Based on my personal applications, I have very good experience and know how of what foreign Universities look for in their application and am looking to open an Education Consulting Business at some point in time. I have helped a few local students apply to universities in Canada, UK and Australia and am also quite familiar with the UCAS system and university essays.
It will be a good experience to help you out so if you are interested please do get in touch.
Cheers
