Really hope I can get some useful advice...
We are a mixed family of Chinese, American, Jap and European cultures, but our main language is English as my husband and I are native Eng speakers.
However, regretting not learning Chinese when I was younger I wanted our son to go to a local school. He got into one but definately not the one we wanted. The school he go into really doesn't look like it's even a Band 3 school. It's in an old estate and the entrance is pretty much a docking area for trucks.
After we payed a visit to that school we hurried to other local schools and applied for interviews but fear that we won't get in because ultimately our son speaks English.
He goes to a local kindy, but because of his name everyone who interviews automatically assumes he doesn't really know Cantonese.
Then we applied to private schools, but we're late and many of them are filled. We got accepted into one so far- St. Johannes College but it's still quite pricey even though cheaper than most other privates and we don't even know a thing about that school.
So my question is...should we just send him the local school hoping he'll be happy and able to keep up with the Chinese or spend more on the private school?

Hi have you ever considered sending him to direct subsidized schools? There are lots of good ones. Some of their school fees are really cheap. They do not follow exactly the local schools cirriculum (not duck feeding i mean). Most of them are bilingual schools.
