We are considering a move to HK next year and Discovery Bay is our favourite choice for location currently. Our son will be 4 this November so is due to start primary school in 2013. As we are not yet able to register at the ESF school in Discovery bay and are unlikely to be in a position to purchase a nominee right, what are the other schooling options? I understand there are long waiting lists in most schools so what are other ex-pat families in DB doing? Any help or advise greatly appreciated.

You can try to register at LIS, not in DB but on Lantau (school bus available). It may be already full, as people register three years in advance. All international schools have waiting lists.

Thank you Jacqueline. Is that a ESF school? Ideally we would have our son following the British curriculum as we may only be there for 2-3 years. What do people do if all schools have waiting lists? Do they get home tutoring while they wait or use local schools as an interim solution?

Harrow school has a bus from DB. Britsh Curriculum. We are very happy as I daughter is going there. You could also try DBIS. Who knows you may have luck.

Gankyk, To be honest, your options are limited already. If you limit yourself to DB, it's not gonna be easy!
Your "local" ESF school is Bradbury on the island, and it's a fair commute. Also, you should get your application in quick - before the end of this month. You can try for Discovery College, but it surely can't be your only option as it's a long shot. Likewise for DBIS.
You can try OWLS in Mui Wo, or Island Christian Academy & The Harbour School on HK Island.
Good luck, and PM me for more info if you like -- I do school placements professionally.
