I am new to HK and have just begun searching for a kindergarten for my daughter who will be turning 5 next March. I would like some advice about which kindergartens are good for foreigners (English speaking) and whether she has a shot at getting into a K3 this late in the year. We would like to start her next August/September 2013.
Where should we interview and why? It costs $300 just for the interview and all the sites I've seen so far say that we should have interviewed by October 30.
Please help!
Thanks!

Hi,
There a wide variety of Kindegartens which only have English has the medium of teaching. Sunshine House, Woodlands, Montessori for Children, City Kids, Small World Kindergarten, Casa Dei Bambini.
Check out the Unique Hong Kong Schools Guide in the bookstores for an overview on the preschool programmes on offer, admissions polices and interview tips.

If your daughter is turning 5 (born 2008), I would be focusing on a primary school rather than a kindergarten. K3 = Year 1 of ESF and their application period has closed already, I'm sorry to say. Also, many of the other int'l schools take kids in at 3, 4 or 5 so you are now relying on drop outs.
If you are willing to consider schools a bit further out or schools with less of a 'brand name', PM me for more info.
Regards,
Ruth

Yikes! So where do I take my daughter for her 5 year old year??? I would really like for her to have the opportunity to have a "fun" year before school becomes about sitting at a desk all day listening to a teacher.

you may want to try Discovery Montessori Schools. They are one of the best Montessori schools I have known. I moved to HK 2 years ago and my daughter attended their school in Discovery Bay. They have a very good Bilingual Systems in Montessori and Mandarin. My daughter picked up Mandarin in just about 6 months, and can read and write Chinese before she moved up to Primary. Their teachers are loving and experience Certified Montessori teacher. They have two campuses Discovery Bay and Central. You may need to call to see, as I know they have a long waiting list.

Ok I am wondering if I need to take a step back and instead of telling everybody what I want for my child I should ask about what other people would do. My daughter was born in March 2008 and I need to know what parents will be doing with their children who will be 5 starting the 2013-2014 school year. What are my options for my almost 5 year old and where do you think would be the best place for her?
Thanks!
