Relaxed Playgroup

Does anyone know of any friendly and relaxed playgroups on Hong Kong Island. After something that is drop in style and not a "school type playgroup" that costs a fortune. I have tried one on the south side but it was quite cliquey and not too friendly. Was quite surprised as playgroups in other countries are usually extremely welcoming to newcomers. Just after a chat and a cuppa while kiddies play and meet other little ones. Willing to travel anywhere on the Island (I'm in Happy Valley).

You can try either St Johns Cathedral in Garden Road - $30 drop in playgroup - they have 2 afternoon sessions, Tuesdays for helpers, Thursdays for parents. This is more for playing, there is a half hour snack time (bring your own!) and usually a little sing song just before going, mostly it's free play though.


The alternative is Union Church just up the hill from St Johns (think it is Kennedy road) you have to sign up for a term though. They have a playgroup session on virtually every day, but some are set for parents to bring the kids, and others for helpers to bring the kids. This has a little more structure than St johns as there is usually a half hour crafts session as well included, but still free play is quite a large part of the time there.

Maybe you can try the HKIL playgroup in Central near Yung Kee. My child is taking some courses there and I think they are quiet good and not pretentious. They have a free coffee bar for us while we are waiting. I am not too sure about their price. I ll PM you their # so you can call them up for more info.

there are some mums who meet up in the valley once or twice a week. Feel free to PM me if you would like more info. I think the church groups are the closest to a casual playgroup. But Busy Bees at the football club has a nice session..even though it's quite structured.
