So I need some honest feedback...I have just started teaching in an amazing English speaking playgroup in Hong Kong based on the concept of humane education. It creates a fun and interactive environment for children to improve their English skills while learning how to be kind and compassionate towards animals, the environment, different cultures and each other. Sadly though, there are hardly any students.
Coming from Australia, I know that this is a great concept which would be really appreciated and respected but in Hong Kong, it seems like people are more interested in getting their children through the competitive cycles of schooling.
I would love some honest feedback on your thoughts about this wholesome type of learning. Is this the kind of place you would send your children? Is there potential for this concept of learning and play in such a competitive environment? This is not a marketing ploy in any way. I am just trying to grasp an understanding of the industry.
Your feedback is appreciated :)

Hong Kong education system is very crazy and also gets parents in crazy moods too! You are right. Most people, especially local families, are getting their kids into very competitive studying environment. Even those one who doesn't want to their kids to get into this sort of environment end up following the flow without a choice. International school system is good, but super pricy! Local system creats robots instead of talents. Very sad! Nothing in between. Your teaching concept is very fresh and creative. Why don't you try to start in a playgroup centre? I know the lady opened Cosmo Kids (Playgroup centre in Caine Road) is very keen to do special teaching playgroup. Why don't you try to contact her then?

Im a Mother of 3, here is my advice. I just joined a playgroup in Pokfulam called Bigfoot Kindergarten. They provide an expert teacher who conducts the lessons in English for 1 1/2 hrs per class. You can even choose if you would like 2 lessons a week or 3, its full of music, sensory, games, activities, stories, art work, dance and singing. The fee is only HKD 2,200 per 10 lessons and there is only 6 children in the class! There is so much room and space, thats why I left the playgroup on Caine rd, because it was so crowded. I will be guaranteed to join nursery in the same school when my baby turns 2.
