Hi everyone, I am half way done with my master in special needs and would like to get my foot in the special needs field in Hong Kong. But Hong Kong has a strange way to get things started. I wanted to volunteer in a couple of organization but they only asked me to send an email to the info email, even refused to say who the email should attend to. I have always been working with kids and for the last couple of years I decided to take my passion to a more professional level. So anyone knows any school or organization is looking for volunteer in the learning disabilities field, please drop me a line. Thanks

Have you tried The Harbour School?

I am heading out this morning with my teenaged son to volunteer at the Pok Fu Lam public riding stables for Riding for the Disabled. They work with lots of schools and organizations helping people with all sorts of disabilities, all age groups. I haven't done it yet, but I used to see them frequently when I was taking riding lessons. Lot's of school groups with severely disabled kids. I'll let you know how it goes.
If you're interest is in more able kids, like working in a school, have you sent your CV to the private schools around town? I know HKIS & Kellett have great special needs programs. I expect most have comparable programs and they would probably welcome a volunteer for 1-on-1 help with kids. It would also get your foot in the door. And CarlosHK is right, Harbour School, run by (or affiliated with) Jadis Blurton and The Family Development Centre is an amazing place, worth getting to know. Good luck!

I would also sign up for supply TA/EA work at your nearest ESF/international schools & stress your area of interest, just to get started.

i did send an email to The Child Institute (affiliated to the Harbour School) and they said they dont need any volunteers. Strange, i wonder why they dont want an extra hand.
