Hi,

We are moving to Hongkong in April and looking for a Kindergarten/ primary school (English medium) in Kowloon area for my daughter for YR 2014/15. She is 4.5 years old and will be turning 5 in September. Nearby areas are also fine with us. Thanks

Go to the Education Bureau's website for a full list of schools and kindergartens:

There are links to individual schools which you can contact regarding availability.

Hope that helps

You'll be looking for a K3 place, which not all kindergartens provide. Those that are focused on international curricula often stop at K2 since international schools will begin at Year 1, the equivalent of K3.

If you are looking for an int'l school, you may find that moving her next year will be very difficult and should, instead, look for a Year 1 placement for her this year (also won't be easy!).

Hope that helps!

I am in the same position as Deepti. My daughter will be 5 next month and we are moving to HK later this year. I am guessing she will be put on a waiting list for the 2015 school year. I have looked at ESF along with ICA and ICS.

Any idea where to send her while we wait for her acceptance once we apply? Does that mean she will miss Year1?

Cara, you're correct. UK Year 2 = US Grade 1 = 6 years old.

EdwardsinBB & Deepti - just trawl the lists for kindergartens in the area you settle in and start calling around for K3 places.

Of course, I can assist too.

All the best,

Ruth

Thanks Cara & Ruth!

Our plan is to find the school first then settle in that area.

Thanks All. We have applied to couple of schools and everywhere is waiting list. Hope to have more clarity once we settle down there.

German Swiss International School has opened a new bi-lingual Kindergarten (English/German) in Sai Kung and is accepting applications for children from 2.8 years on throughout the year.
