Hi everyone,
I would be doing a pgde in HKU, 1 year course. I would like to apply for a job at an ESF, I have no prior teaching experience. What r the chances to get into ESF eith a PGDE. How should I go about it.

Unfortunately, I am 99.9% sure that, with no teaching experience, you will not get a job at ESF as a Teacher. You may wish to try the NET scheme, other schools, or volunteering as an Assistant to build contacts and experience. Best of luck with your career!

You may like to consider supply teaching. I know for a fact that you can do that. The daily rate is approx $1400. If you are good you will keep getting asked backed and it is a very good experience as you get to work with all ages.

I know of supply teachers that work in both primary and secondary schools. Some full time teachers have made the transfer both ways. I would imagine it is up to the school and whether or not they can get the supply teachers. I'm sure all schools would prefer someone qualified in that area but it isn't always possible. I know that it can be very hard (under the work visa scheme) getting good supply teachers. If you impress the teachers you'll definitely get asked back.
