Hi,

We are looking for a fully bi-lingual school with strong academic results for our four year old but are having a hard time deciding between these two schools.

Any info greatly appreciated, thanks!

ISF definitely. I've seen kids from both schools, and undoubtedly ISF wins.

You can have a preference, but there's no guarantee you can get into either.

Your child is already 4? Apply to both!!

If and when you have offers from both, you can make your decision.

Why not consider a few more? Two is risky.

I'm not sure on what basis Torontonian makes his point. ISF has only one graduating cohort, so it's early days for them. The secondary sections of both schools are quite different from the primaries.

In terms of "strong academic results", I believe in HK that often has a lot to do with how involved and hands-on the parents are in their child's homework, how many tutors the parents hire and how self motivated the student is. For many students (of course not all) achieving strong academic results seem to become a team approach.... My son has spent several years at ISF and I have been questioning more and more, how much of his result is actually thanks to the school's academic program and how it is delivered by the school. Not rarely, it feels like a "do-it-yourself" type of situation in some subjects, ie go to school to find out what you will be assessed on, go home and figure it out and then return to school for the test. I think parents need to carefully consider if the so called MYP program (used by ISF) is the right program for their child and for themselves. I would not have chosen the MYP program if I knew then what I know now. I don't like the so called "research/inquiry based" approach which I believe for many young students is more like a "copy and paste from the Internet" approach. MYP has been hugely disappointing for us.
