Hi there. My family and I have recently moved to Hong Kong and we are now curious as to the avaliabilty of pre-school playgroups here. Can anyone please tell me the youngest age at which a child can enter a Hong Kong playgroup, whether publicly or privately. From what I can gather, the use of domestic helpers for help with childcare, whether full time or part time, seem to be more popular than entering a child into a playgroup. Is this the case in Hong Kong? Many thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

Hi Mub2002
We also recently moved to HK and I can only give you the little info I have. I also thought that it was more popular to have domestic helpers than to join playgroups but as I have found out, there are a lot of women here in HK that don't have helpers and are willing to get playgroups going for their sake and the bubs. Also, from experiance, the age of your child doesn't seem to be a big deal. I have also looked at Panda Junction www.pandajunction.com and Kindyroo,www.kindyroo.com which take from 6 months but I have yet to attend any until end of Feb :) How old are your child/children?

Many thanks for your help, it is good to know now. Actually, though I said family, we are presently just a couple, we do not have any yet but hope to be joined by a third member of our clan soon. I thought it was for the best that I checked avaliable options first, especially as the issue of childcare will have a huge impact on our working lives. Again, many thanks for your help, and if you come across any more information, I would dearly like to hear it.

How old is the 3rd member? Talking from experience it is quite difficult to find a place private or public that will take a child WITHOUT a helper or Mum in tow below the age of 2yrs. Woodlands in mid Levels take younger for approx 11/2hrs 2 or 3 times a week but not unattended!!! Few nurseries for non local.
Sorry to say but if 3rd member is less than 3yrs a helper in a family is about the only way around things if both parents work.It also takes time to arrange to get a helper. They can/could live out if you're not keen on the idea...but financially and convenience wise live in is better and I assure you that helpers can be discrete and you quickly get used to this change in privacy!!
