Is it wise?

#I am going to be 38.

#A single mom. Financially dependent on my ex.

#Have always had a passion for fashsion designing but no background at all in it.

#Am currently unemployed; had worked for a couple of years after a break of 8, but unfortunately the office closed down end of last year!

HK does not offer any courses of repute in the field but I have finally found a private institute, Raffles International, offering a two year advanced diploma in it.

My questions are (especially to those who are in the field of fashion) :

# Is it worth taking up this course?

# Will it be recognised by the industry?

# Will it help me get a good break?

# And hence is it worth in terms of time and money spent?

# Given the age factor, I will be 40 by the time finish the course, will it be difficult to get work opportunities in this field?

Greatly apprecite your inputs.

I'm not in the fashion industry or know anything about it but on a general point.

You're still young at 38, think about it - by the time you're 45 (still young) you'll be qualified and working at something that's your passion. Breaks and opportunities in any business come but if you dont have the qualifications you may always wish you did.

I think what you need to ask yourself is do you really have the passion, drive and willingness to give time and effort to get where you want to - age is not a factor unless you make it one.

The other alternative is be 45 or 50 etc, a single mom and financially dependent on your ex!!!

I say go for it and good luck.

Thank you for your inputs, WWcC and missmomo.

Appreciate your effort missmomo in responding in detail to my questions.

I have researched a lot for the courses offered in HK in fashion design. And indeed I came across Polyu one. But unfortunately that is not completely in English. Raffles is the only one offering in English. I am an long term expat here.

I did not get what you mean by the post secondary entrance interview portfolio. They have not asked for it. They wanted my CV which I sent and they have approved my admission. I am actually already pretty qualified. Have a MBA and some years of work ex.

I will give thought to everything you have written and it is indeed a great help! Thanks.
