Playgroup/Nursery's - Stanley

Hi everyone, we're about to move to Stanley so I'm on the look out for a playgroup or nursery for my 2 and a half year old little girl. Does anyone know of anything?

Does anyone know if there's anything (either parent organised playgroups or nursery's) in Stanley itself as I won't have a car for a little while and would like to be able to walk if poss???

ok def. looking like I'll have to take her to Tai Tam. Perhaps I'll try starting a playgroup with some other mums once I get settled. If anyone's interested in that let me know! B

I haven't heard very good things about Montessori for Children - I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Montessori Tai Tam seems to have a better reputation, but do let us know.

I think it's what suits you and I believe you can see alot by going and observing or better still ask if your little one can do a trial - that's what I did. Although..... I didn't know about the one right here in Stanley, so I haven't seen it yet. For now, my daughter's attending the Woodlands Repulse Bay Pre-School (the non- montessori one) and so far I'm very happy with it. She seems to love it too!! I met a woman yesterday who said the Stanley Montessori is excellent and she's a teacher herself!!!

Amy66, sorry about the delay, just back after CNY. We ave been very happy by the montessori in Stanley, although the facilties are a bit tired compared to Woodland, Tutor Time etc. My daughter was not there very long, as she started 'big girl school' soon after we arrived in HK.


It was recommended to us by friends who have been to HK for about 15 years. To be honest, I did not research it very thoroughly. Only looked at Southside Kindergarten and Woodland Montessori in The Repulse Bay. Like BTS said, it is down to the individual parent/child. We hated Southside and liked Woodland, but then heard from a few people who had moved there children out of there, so went with Stanley.


If I have one complaint (apart from the fact that it could do with a lick of paint); it is that they do not have a playgroup. I think the playgroups are a good way to guage the school and of familiarising toddlers with the environment before starting and nursery without their parents.


I've done a bit more research since we got here, as I will need nurseries for my younger children. Have tried playgroups at Woodland Montessoris Repulse Bay and Tai Tam. I liked them both, except that they feel a bit too 'schooly' for very young children - classrooms lined up next to one another etc. i do have a friend whose sn's hair was cut by another little boy there (and I mean the whole head, he also cut the other child's hair), so I do wonder how closely the children are supervised there. Nice play areas though. I also thought that the quality of the teachers varied considerably. Tutor Time just did not suit us at all - too much school and not enough play for a toddler in my view, but I have friends whose children really love it there. So we are going back to Stanley for no. 2. We have found that all of the teachers are excellent and that it is a very caring and nurturing environment. My daughter misses the teachers a lot and still plays with her friends from there all the time (often asking if we can pick them up from nursery so that she can say hello to the teachers too). I'd still be interested in hearing the negative feedback that you've had Amy66. Hope this helps.
