After a family relocation trip last week, our daughter was offered a spot at both HKIS and CDNIS, and we need to decide in the next few days. I know that we are very fortunate to have this choice, as both schools are excellent (so we can't go wrong!).
However, we would appreciate some insight/thoughts of local persons with knowledge of both schools.
We are Americans, and coming from an American school, however we are very open to the IB PYP curriculum. We very much liked the tours at each school, but our instinct was that CDNIS was a better fit, as we liked the "vibe" and energy of the school. However, it was just a tour. CDNIS has amazing facilities, so that may have impacted our reaction.
We know friends and colleagues at HKIS (they very much like it), but we do not have any personal knowledge of families at CDNIS.
Two more issues: We are concerned with the construction/diruption at HKIS due to the rebuilding of the Lower Primary; and, we are a non-traditional family made up of same-sex parents, so we also want to make sure either school is welcoming.
Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks

HKIS is a member of the Missouri Synod of the American Lutheran Church. The doctrine of that particular synod does not support same sex marriage, whereas the Province of Ontario, which is the main curriculum of CDNIS, obvsiously does (the gay premier just one a 2nd term). // However, on the ground, it looks like this: most of the students at HKIS are either Americans or from all parts of Asia. It's a traditional international school feel and concept. It is an elite school with the teaching staff all being able to ace the SAT and AP, but definitely not being gay (see above). Comparatively, most of the students at CDNIS are local Chinese. In terms of the management at CDNIS, it's local Chinese (elites). The Canadian staff at CDNIS are not able to ace the SAT (which is not a priority in Canada) and extras are brought in after school to offer prep courses. Both campuses have their positives and neither campus is free of building new buildings at this moment.// All in all, despite the fact that the Missouri Synod is anti-gay, I'd go with HKIS if you are planning to attend an American University. They are the ones who are going to get you through the SAT and AP courses you need. IB doesn't hold a lot of water with American elite colleges.

HKIS is better with college admissions - second to CIS

iB is rated very highly by American colleges
My son got into 3 ivy leagues and did his SAT prep outside school - at one of the many HK tutoring centers that offer it
So that shouldn't be a problem
