Adult English Classes for complete beginner

Hello,


I am searching for Adult English language classes for a complete beginner for my wife(from China and speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and a liitle Japanese only) - so would need proper English foundations for speaking and writing (UK English preferred).


We will relocate to the UK in 8 years so would need a good basic grounding over a longer term course.


Some of the Language schools we have checked are not as understanding as we thought and threw her in for a trial in a class with varying mixed skill levels - not good.


Ideally, a small class would be best so that she can learn with others at the same level who can relate to the situation. I am checking the British Coiuncil and HKU SPACE but don't know if they are suitable.


Any recommendations or experience, advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your replies.

I personally think a class room environment would be better suited since we are thinking about a long tern commitment so that she can interact and share with other students of a similar level.

Her current English level is very basic so would perhaps need a teacher that has some basic Cantonese or Mandarin to explain elements of the language??

She really needs to start form ground zero.

We stay in Happy Valley. Prefer a foraml class room setting where my wife can interact with other students and to get her out of the apartment to take a break from looking after the baby.
