I am looking for an English tutor for my daughter. She's in P6 and is hoping to do better in creative writing in school. We live on Hong Kong island.
Any recommendations?

if you are only hoping for your daughter to excel in creative writing, the best (and cheapest) solution is to persuade your daughter to read more. Don't force her to read anything she's not interested in, bring her to a bookshop and let her discover this new world. Reading lots of books can help expand one's vocabulary and in your case, her imagination. Tutors are very resourceful only when it comes to teaching grammar rules and english writing formats.

Agree - I have read a lot of research on this and from what I can gather ... reading improves writing skills (many great authors were prolific readers as kids)... also if kids see parents reading they are keen to mimic... so designating some family reading time where everyone is encouraged to pick a book and read ... appears to help kids develop an appreciation for reading... and that helps them with writing.

As a teacher I agree with the comments above, reading will really help. If you are still looking for a tutor however I may be interested. I'm a secondary school English teacher working at an international school in HK and am looking for some private tutoring work, so do message me if you want more information about my qualifications. Should you choose tutoring I would not expect that you would need a long term arrangement however, a few sessions to work on generating ideas and bolstering creativity should suffice, I would go with encouraging reading in the first instance though. I would not want to encourage you to pay for uneccessary tutoring.

Reading is definitely necessary, but some guidance can help as well. My 12 year old nephew is in S.1 and he loves to write. He asked his mom for a private tutor in creative writing. She searched hard and found a really good teacher for him. Now he enjoys his lessons tremendously. It depends on the kid and the tutor as to whether the tutoring is "unnecessary" or not.

I agree Reading is the key to develop her vocabulary and build her interest in a variety of subjects....the more she knows about different subject matters, the more she will have the imagination to develop her writing skills. I've taught children for many years how to develop their Creative Writing Skills. Drop me an email if you'd like me to support your daugther in some way or even prepare some materials that she can work on alone.
