Starting "Playmate Plea" Playgroup in Central

ORIGINAL POST
Posted by StefA 17 yrs ago
I have been in Central for 8 weeks now and I have a 2.8 year old son who needs a playmate, and I wouldn't mind some company too! I am forming a playgroup for children AND their mothers/helpers so if anyone is interested, please e-mail me. I live in Central/ Mid-Levels and would like to get together at any location as long as I can get there with a stroller!

E-mail if you're interested : serenitysempress@yahoo.co.uk

I have a 22 month old son, we live in mid-levels. Let me know if you'd like to meet. As for only going where you can take the stroller... you'll never leave Central if that's the rule!

Hi,

I have a 19mo son and a daughter who will be 4 next month. We are also in the mid-levels and would be interested in meeting up. just give us a time and place.

Also there are a few of us (mums and kids) who meet up for coffee on a Friday afternoon about 2ish if you'd like to join us?

StefA 17 yrs ago
Sara, you'd be suprised how far my stroller has gotten in Central! lol

Sara & Sammy would love to meet you both. If either of you have any ideas, please let me know and the three of us could get together. I'm fairly new to Central so still have not discovered all its secrets. Maybe a park somewhere up here to start?Let me know. You can either post here or e-mail me.

Sammy would love to join for coffee on Fridays (you have no idea) but my son naps around that time and he's still doing the 2-3 nap stretch and it's VERY valuable time for me ; )

Hi Stef,

Know what you mean about the sleep! My son is going down between 10 & 11 and doing a couple of hours, so basically it appears that when mine wake up yours goes down!! Not sure how we'll work around that one?

Where are you living? We are on Conduit Rd. Perhaps we can try for something later in the afternoon. What time does your son usually wake up?

StefA 17 yrs ago
Hi Sammy,

Truthfully ever since we moved to HK he's been napping too late anyway, so I need to pull back the time gradually and have him napping at 1pm or earlier again. That way I can get him up by the latest 3 to go out. We live down on Caine Road so I'm not sure where to suggest. Is there someplace on Robinson we could meet then it's between the both of us? No parks please, just got back from HK zoo and am completely drenched! lol Let me know.

Please support our advertisers:
mommy sara 17 yrs ago
We are on Robinson. I don't really know of anyplace to suggest this high up. There is a good park at Caine and Seymour (close enough you shouldn't get rained on too much), though I've never gotten Sam to go to a park with us yet :-)

Please support our advertisers:
StefA 17 yrs ago
I know exactly which park you mean Sara. I've got no problem getting there either. Sam why won't you go to a park out of interest? Anyway I just put the boo down for a nap so he won't be up and ready until at least 4 then since I AM the domestic helper I have to be back to cook by 6. Sam would you prefer a coffee shop or something? It doesn't bother me to trek down into Central. Someone let me know, the suspense is killing me!LOL I'll keep checking.......

sammy s 17 yrs ago
Did I not mention I was allergic to parks?! Or perhaps it's that they don't sell coffee there! Honestly, I've never made it to the park before cause you always arranged times that Jesse was sleeping or I was getting Mila off to school or picking her up! I should be able to make it if we organise something. It was also a bit too hot but the weather is getting more bearable these days.

But if we were really desperate for a place to meet there's always Krispy Kreme ;-)

Please support our advertisers:
StefA 17 yrs ago
Heehee Sara seems like you struck a nerve with Sammy about the park.

As for suggesting Krispy Kreme Sam, you are pure evil! I only just rejoined the gym less than a week ago and happen to be officially the fattest person in my gym and in HK lol Let me lose a few pounds and then I'll be happy to regain with a victorious trip to Krispy Kreme to celebrate and I will pay for everyone.

Next Wednesday and Friday I'm free all day. Can we maybe arrange something between pickups and nap times then? Sara I'm in no position to convince Sam to go to the park since I currently refuse to go into a Krispy Kreme. Otherwise I will meet you both seperately. Sara, I will meet you at the park on Seymour/ Caine and Sam I will meet you in a coffee shop that sells cakes but is not called Krispy Kreme.

Please support our advertisers:
sammy s 17 yrs ago
No seriously, I can do the park! As long as it's between about 9 & 10.30ish in the morning (just Jesse & I) or after 2pm (all 3 of us). Jesse is a bit older now too and is more "into" the park if you know what I mean.

And I may hold you to that KK trip!! Don't worry- I'm working up to rejoining the gym myself! Just too lazy and like my food too much, esp the bad stuff!

What time does your son usually wake up?? We will be doing coffee from about 2ish on Friday if you can make it. Let me know if you are interested and i'll give you my mob number. You can call and check if we are still there if you'll be late.

Please support our advertisers:
StefA 17 yrs ago
Ok I'm 'OFFICIALLY' arranging it then. Next Wednesday at 9am at the park on Caine/Seymour. If we can't all agree to that time, then maybe 4pm on Wednesday? Sam if we end up going in the morning we can always do an afternoon after that so that all the kids can play. Did I forget to mention my son was a massive flirt and would probably follow your daughter like a puppy dog?

You better hold me to that KK trip as i've been salivating at the pictures in the window every time I go past! But I refuse to buckle until I get back into enough shape that I can eat, then easily go and burn it off later. We just joined California Fitness on Wellington. I go there every night after dinner as it's 'daddy time'. Then I get back in time for storytime. I only workout for about 45 mins on cardio, but I love it.

My son usually wakes up between 4-5.30pm that's why I need to re-arrange his nap time. He wakes up way too late but I've had nothing to occupy his time with, so I've let him sleep later and later.

I would love to come on Friday and would even be willing to either put Gabe down early or not at all, but I've arranged to do 'something' with the boss' wife on Friday and we've only just broken the ice after getting off on the wrong foot......How late do you usually stay until?

Please support our advertisers:
sammy s 17 yrs ago
That sounds good. Pretty sure we can make it! And don't think Mila would have a problem being followed around! Her brother does it all day and she is very good at being the boss!

Thinking about joining that gym myself. Is that the one with the 1 month for $99 special? You recommend it?

As for how long we stay at coffe, it varies really. Somedays we're gone by 3.30pm and other days we're still sitting around chatting at 5pm! Safest to call and check I'd say.

StefA 17 yrs ago
Hiya Sam,

Sorry for late response, just got back from Panda Junction (wish that place was open all the time and had free play). Anyway, which would you prefer - morning or afternoon next Wed.?

Yep it is the $99 special gym. Let's face it Pure Fitness is the closest to all of us, but it's far more expensive and everyone in there looks great! I would only recommend California Fitness because you can get a good deal (if you're not my husband, god bless him but he fell for the "it's cheaper in the long run" 21 month deal). We have all access all of the time though, and with our membership the classes are also free. Plus you get all sorts there, not just the rich and beautiful. The womens changing room is on the top floor and you have to get past all the macho men flexing to get there - it's hilarious. They just stand there posing. The people there are really nice though and the women in the changing room make a point of remembering your name. You can also get a good deal if someone refers you, and a free gym bag to join.

Won't be able to make coffee this Friday but I'm making a point of napping Gabe early from now on, so afternoons will start opening up. Would love to try and make it next week? Do you guys go to Pacific Coffee on Hollywood? That gigantic coffee house? BTW every time I pass KK i think of you lol

Hi Stef, have just seen this post. I live in North Point and have a son who is just turning 2 1/2 years old, almost all of his friends are girls so I'm keen to get him together with some other boys (your son is 2yrs 8months right?). I'd love to meet up - I believe I've already met Sammy S briefly last week to sell a Baby Baboz, I had a ridicously busy day and felt very unsociable because I couldn't stop and chat for long but Sammy S you seemed lovely and it would be nice to see you again and have time to chat properly!!!

Anyway ladies let me know what you're up to and if there's room for one more mummy!

Cheers Mel

Hi there,

Have sent you a pm.

StefA 17 yrs ago
Roger that Sam, figured it out and responded.

Mel absolutely! But only if you explain what a Baby Baboz is? lol Always room for one more mummy and always room for more kids! Mel we're meeting up at the park on Caine/ Seymour next Wednesday between 9-9.30am if you can make it. If you can't I have next Friday free next week in the morning (going to try and get coffee in the afternoon see previous posts). My son is enrolled is 2 classes every week Monday & Thursday mornings, so believe me when I say I have time for playmates.

Also I am planning a Krispy Kreme party in a few months after some anticipated weight loss :- ) heehee It's like a tupper ware party....but just with donuts..... ; - )

Please support our advertisers:
sammy s 17 yrs ago
Funny you should say that, only a few weeks ago I actually had a Tupperware party and for morning tea we had, yep, Krispy Kreme donuts!!!

Hope to see you there Mel!

Ok, I guess I need to check this more often...

-Wed 9am will work though we can't stay long. Paul has a class at 10. Park is great, zero calories.

-I go to California too. Definately the cheapest in town and a good variety of classes.

-We've never tried Panda Junction, but we love Gymboree and they have free open play everyday.

-don't get Sam started about tupperware!

Please support our advertisers:
StefA 17 yrs ago
I bet I've seen you at California Fitness a million times Sara and don't know it!

I had no idea Gymboree had free play, must discuss this more next Wednesday.

Mel - Is the park on Caine/Seymour too far? Would Victoria Park on another day be better? Let us know, I'm sure we could pull off both after all we're Super Mums!

Hello!!!!

I'm really interested in meeting up. I have two boys aged 3 1/2 years old and 19 months and am just on Seymour Road so quite close to you Stef on Caine.

I also know Sammy :0) I have visitors staying until the 15th October but will be free anytime after that.

Looking forward to meeting everyone although no gym membership so am I still allowed ... LOL!

Please support our advertisers:
StefA 17 yrs ago
Hi Trudy,

The gym thing is just pure coincidence! lol Only just joined in the past week.

It would be great if you could join us : ) Seems I'm the only one that hasn't met Sam! Girl you really network!

The good news is we seem to have a fantastic age range group now starting from 19 months (unless Mel you are the one with a 4 month old also?) spanning up to 4 years with Sam's daughter. I think this way all the kids will have other age appropriate kids to play with and we should satify all needs.

Trudy I'm hoping this becomes a very regular playgroup so I'm sure we'll be meeting again after the Caine/Seymour meeting. Keep checking this thread and I'll keep trying to think of more places!

OH god, feel stupid, thought that I would get an email alert when there were replies and it just occured to me that I should check the site direct - OOPS! Sorry guys, right am going to read through the replies now!!! Will reply again as soon as I have.....

lifeisforliving 17 yrs ago
OK have caught up on all the replies! Sam, you said you sent me a PM but my inbox is empty so don't know where else to look?! Your last message Stef was about meeting today so obviously missed that! - did you all end up meeting? Am actually tied up on Friday and then on hols for half term next week so will touch base as soon as I'm back. Baby Baboz, well it's a highchair harness which I would have loved to use had I not brought it way too early, put it in the cupboard for 'future use' and forgotten all about its existence until having a tidy up and finding it too late to use it! My son Alex is 2 1/2 years old btw. How are Tuesday mornings for you out of interest? I have no idea where the park is on Caine/Seymour street and I've no car so you'll need to tell me which MTR exit to take etc and then maybe we can rotate between there and Victoria Park? I've never had a Krispy Kreme although have heard plenty about them - sounds like their consumption might require an obligatory gym membership?!!! Don't belong to a gym here but do Pilates / Swimming so I can keep up with my toddler! Well am looking forward to getting together, let me know about Tuesdays and if Tuesday 23rd October suits, if not I'm sure we'll figure something out as you said we are 'super mums'!!

Hiya Mel,

I'm sooooooooo sorry. It should have occurred to met to contact you just in case!We met this morning and I don't seem to have scared anyone off (yet! lol) Tuesday 23rd October sounds great Mel, maybe we should just meet in Victoria Park to start and then figure out some more places from there? Mel I have also PM'ed you expect something from Sam anyway though! lol

Ok so everything is a go for tomorrow. For those of you that check Expat b4 e-mail, I'm suggesting that we bring snacks for our kids at least since my son begged food from a complete stranger last time I took him out without making a sandwich for him! lol Leads to a very akward situation as you will see tomorrow, he's not a skeleton!

Our next playdate is tomorrow and you are more than welcome to come! All the kids are between 19 months and 4 years and we will be meeting in the park on Caine/ Seymour tomorrow between 9am - 9.30am. Some of us have been in Hong Kong for a while and others just moved recently so we could all help you with any questions you have regarding getting around, what groups you can sign up for, cheapest place to shop etc. in addition to your son having someone to play with.

Just let me know if you're interested and I will look for you. I'm quite short with glasses and probably the loudest one in the park! : )

The next playdate will be Tuesday 6th November at Hong Kong Zoo and Botanical Gardens at the childrens playground - 9.30am. The weather is starting to change and there is some coverage at the park but if you're not brave (or stupid like me) and it rains you probably won't turn up! I am a complete hard arse and will turn up rain or snow! lol

GiaBaby and snooja you are both more than welcome to come! We won't be able to make Victoria Park for a couple more weeks because we only went the week before last.

Ok so if anyone has any questions or needs my cell phone number to text me if they can't make it, or need help with anything let me know.

GiaBaby most of us live in Mid-Levels except Mel who lives in North Point. But girls if anyone can help GiaBaby with advice on schools in the Victoria Park area PLEASE speak up! Additionally snooja if you have any questions or need help, please ask!

You're MORE than welcome to join us tomorrow. We're starting at 9.30am Pacific Coffee - Windsor House in CWB and moving over to Victoria Park after. We MUST get caffeine before the kids play lol

Go ahead and e-mail me if you plan on coming and I'll give you my cell number through e-mail so you can find me. Though we all end up being rather obvious at that time of the morning. Especially me looking frantic and texting any new mums that can't see how obvious I am to spot!

To those that can make both, cheers that we are able to keep you and your kids busy! lol

All suggestions for meeting places on Wednesday afternoons are needed, so if we all put our heads together we should figure it out! I'll post with Wednesday 21st playdate when it's been decided.

The pressure for Christmas shopping is building and just in time for it here's the playdate for Tuesday 27th November, as suggested by Anna (thankyou Anna!)

9.30 am in Pret a Manger in IFC ,and then off to the Christmas fair outside IFC 2!

Here's the website for IFC for those of you that are not familiar with the layout and where Pret is:

http://www.ifc.com.hk/english/mall.aspx

Here is the link with some info. about the fair (thanks again Anna!)

http://www.hkhawkers.com/

Now I do know some of you are not keen to bring the kids and that is optional for those who have helpers, so don't feel pressed to bring the kids if you don't want to. Gabe is fond of markets as there's always something of interest for him there, but my "NO STROLLER/PRAM!!!!" ban may crumble under the desire to shop! LOL

Any questions let me know, those of you that can make it let me know. Start counting the pennies!!!!!

Hello Everyone : )

Happy New Year!

The playdate for Friday January 18th 2008 @ 10.30am is at Hong Kong Zoo & Botanical Gardens.

There is a massive childrens playground at the top of the park and for those of you that do not want to take the uphill trek and who have prams and REALLY don't want the uphill trek you are advised to enter at the following entrance - Upper Albany Road. If you enter there and look to your right there is a ramp in addition to stairs leading up to the playground. There is a shaded area there for those of you with babies.

Please find the link below for a map of the zoo so you can find the childrens playground and the signage can be a bit weird so please pay attention:

Any questions please let me know and those of you who are new and want to join please e-mail me at the above address and I'll add you to the e-mailing list : )

Hello,

Still running this playgroup in mid-levels every Friday morning at 9.30am.

Until my son switches to morning school schedule I have to keep it local, but I had been wandering further afield into Kowloon for adventurous playdates and will be doing that again come September when the switch should have taken place.

All ages from 12 weeks to 3 years.

E-mail if interested, have almost 40 mothers on the list currently:
