It's really up to you. Some employers have a bitter relationship with their helper and choose to give a non-refundable one-way ticket home to their departing helper (read the posts here), even when they know their helper doesn't plan to go back immediately, whereas other employers give the cash equivalent. If you choose the latter, then you should probably document it (I just do everything via bank transfers rather than dealing with signatures) as TC suggested and also negotiate with your helper on the fair value of the ticket home. Some unscrupulous employers, such as my helper's former employer, will give a token amount of cash in lieu of a ticket in a take-it-or-leave-it proposition.

If she prefers to get money that means she won't return then continues to stay here doing p/t job.

In case you give her the equivalent money pls make sure that her siguniture is the same as the one in the contract. This is one of their tricks they often use.

I'm a bit confused with all the replies. I thought once a helper is terminated after full contract or not, and immigration has been notified, the helper then has 14 days to leave the country unless she/he finds another contract. I thought a return ticket home was the only legal option and that the money equivalent was not allowed.

This is what I thought happened.

I think a cash equivalent is perfectly reasonable as long as you get it signed for. My partner's last boss gave him a ticket that he cuoldn't change or refund for 8am on the day he was due to leave her employment, but still expected him to work until 10pm the night before. Helpers have two weeks from the end of their contract before they have to leave, and some of them like to have a holiday before they have to deal with their families back home, and why shouldn't they?

green, this was my first initial question as well but I think you should be protected if you have already notified immigration that the helper is no longer under your employment. With our letter to immigration, we had to list all the final payments to our helper and had her sign a letter stating she had recieved everything that was due to her.

I'm not sure whether you can decide on whether you want to be 'tight' with the airfare dates as I think they have about 14 or 21 days to leave (I can't remember) after termination and and this is stated by the immigration department.

We also felt safer buying the ticket as well.

With our helper, we asked her when she wanted to leave and bought a ticket for her for that particular date.
