My helper has to go back to her province to general santos( davaos) in philipines. I tried to find out abt the tickets, but agents quoted different rates.
my helper went to one agent to just book the ticket, they asked her for down payment. Is it the case that one as to pay just to book?
Anybody knows how to solve this problem? How do u manage this problem?
Anybody has any idea about the price of the tickets?
thanks

I have only booked tickets as far as Manila. From memory Cathay or Philipine Ailines charge from about $1770 return upwards. There is another airline called Cebu Pacific which is much cheaper (from about $300 each way plus tax).
Did you try to book via a travel agent ot DH employment agency? I know that I have been cheated by a DH agency; I asked for a Cathay flight, they quoted me $1600, which was a bit cheaper than I had found on expedia, so I booked it. In the end, I found out that the ticket was booked through Cebu for $300 each way; quite a hefty mark-up.
If I were you, I'd just get online and book it directly yourself.

Don't know where your DH went to book ticket, but usually, travel agent does not ask for down payment/deposit for reservations. Either you pay full and issue the ticket right away, or they give you a deadline when the reservation is held until. Sounds weird.

There is a building called New World House in Central across the street from IFC. The entire building seems to cater to Filipina and there are travel agencies there you can go directy and get price quotes and details. I used to have my helper arrange tickets herself and I reimbursed her based on receipt she submitted. This time, I went to the agency myself and it costed me half of what I paid previously.

mrsl, I would like to know how to source $300 tickets (are you saying HK$300? seems very cheap?) have been on Cebu website and their cheapest seems to be $2999 - can't see a special section for DH flights please advise. I am looking to start a new contract with a helper who is already in HK and understand that I will need to pay for her flight back here for the start of the new contract which will be in August. Thanks for any advice / help.

lifeisforliving: They were $300 EACH WAY (plus tax, which was about $280). Not sure if it was aspecial offer at the time, as I have just been looking for tickets for next month and they were $500 each way. Cathay has a special DH fare at the moment for about $1400, I think.

Cebu Pacific has different fares, depending on how full the flight is at the time you book the ticket. It could be as low as $300 but it could be a lot higher. In any case, that fare only gets you to Manila. You would still need to get your helper a ticket to or near to her final destination. A four hour bus ride is not unacceptable but an eight hour bus ride would be in my opinion. For the original poster, Cebu Pacific also flies to Davos, which is four hours by bus from General Santos. I am not sure if you can book that part of the ticket online though.
