Sacking a maid

First of all check your DH contract details with regard to severance at short notice.


In HK we have to give formal notice to the maid (Written, signed by both parties with a date), I would recommend you pay 1 months notice in lieu and a one way flight ticket back to PI.


Inform Sing immigration immediately with a copy of your severance letter and severance pay packet - this avoids her claiming unfair dismissal and submitting a further claim against you ! (these can sometimes be messy !)


A suggestion I have posted before, is that you do not give contact details, but set up a separate e-mail account to receive enquiries from future / potential employers.


It is important that she / he is removed from your house asap to avoid, accidents (you will be surprised how many try to get employee compensation after termination !) All keys, mobiles and any items of equipment that you have given to her to perform her duties etc are to be returned and itemised as part of the severance letter (like moving into a furnished flat !)


You do not have the relationship now, nor will you have it in the future, that she is working hard "now" does not mean she will revert back later - if you do not take this stance, you will have problems in future !


That she has realised how hard it is to get further employment now, is not your concern, her actions / work ethic have forced this onto you - your are the employer, you do not need the added stress, hence hiring a DH !


Her family is her issue, not yours ! - you have your own to worry about and are now concerned with the actions of this DH ! - Get rid !


If a previous employer had her for two weeks only, in my book, that is a red flag on interview and would prevent me from shortlisting her for further hire ! - however, hindsight is 20/20 !
