Can I ask helper to go on holiday too?

I have a question. We are going to go on holiday for a week in May and I'm wondering if I could ask my helper to take 5 days annual leave at the same time? (I understand she has 7 days annual leave per year but she's only been with us for a few months).

Mary C you can ask her but there is no way you can insist on it and in honesty when she only has 7 days a year it seems a little unfair to ask her to take 5 of them because you wish to go away.

Perhaps the best solution is to offer her the time off with pay if you don't wish for her to be in your home and ask her to go away for the period (although you can’t really insist on that either unless you pay for accommodation etc) or if her being home is not a problem do as Some others do and ask her to do some spring cleaning chores that don’t get done so often.

Remember that quite often a DH might go along with what you ask of them but may not be happy about it but don’t have the courage to tell you. Maybe if you think about how you would feel about it yourself then you will be able to make a call on if it seems fair or not.

She may surprise you though and be ok with it
