keeping cleaning cloths separate

Hi there,

I am a bit worried that my helper may be using the same cloths for the bathrooms as for the living room and kitchen as they are all the same type. When she's finished cleaning for the day, she rinses them out in the sink and hangs them up to dry all together until the next use.

I could ask her how she keeps them apart, but I'd rather just give her a routine to follow- problems with communication, language, etc. Therefore, do you have any advice as to how you get your helpers to not use bathroom rags in the kitchen, etc.? Thanks!

I use different types and color.

Cleaning for bathroom - white so she can add clorex and wash in the bathroom's sink once she had finished cleaning.

Kitchen - colored striped, washed in the kitchen sink and hanged on top of the sink area. I have a towel rack on top of the sink.

General cleaning for windows, cabinets - the lintfree type that is used for car cleaning.

Washed in the bathroom sink.

Use different types/ colours and buy large ziplock bags. Write on the front of each bag what they are for. Also talk to her and make her understand WHY you need to keep things seperate. ALternatively you can buy special kitchen roll that is superduper strength. I use this to clean as it is so strong and can rinse out a couple of times before bining it. It is called DIVA and you can get it at PnShop.

Agree with all the post, the first time my helper cam in my house I thought she knew the routine and way of good cleaning becuase she been from another employer before we hired her, but goodness I was so shock when I saw her use one towel for everything, for the bathroom, dusting, the floor, and even at the kitchen to wipe the sink area when she wash the dishes. I dont know why she do that, wondering if she is lazy to wash many towels or too dumb not to realize the difference, then I talk to her and told her why she should separate . And then the other night I saw her using the towels for kitchen sink to wipe dry the plates!!!!.....I can tell you guys, you said one thing, you have to follow it up, becuase sometimes they just do what you exactly say, and dont use their own common sense.

Thanks for your tips. Had conversation with helper and she does have a system to keep the rags separate and was a bit shocked that I thought she might overlap the cloths b/w rooms. But, still thinking about colored coded rags so I know which rags to use for what rooms when she isn't around to ask!

Great, a good idea. Just like marking the children's shoes with their name. I think permanent marker should work.
