Once they have completed 5 years its 2/3 of a months salary for every year they've worked. But they are only entitled to it once they start their 3rd contract.

Hi
Is there any official link to check this out.. i understand it will also depend on the age of the helper & some one said that it has to be done at the end of 4 , 6 & 12 years respectively.
Cheers

It doesn't have anything to do with age, and its payable for any year they work once into their 3rd contract. ie. nothing for completeing 4, but payable on 5,6,7,8,9 etc

check this link, chapter 8: http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/public/wcp/FDHguide.pdf
It is my understanding the long service payment is due only when you or your DH decides to terminate contract or not renew it, right?

Yes you pay it when they leave, not while they are still working for you.

Dear Sankar
Your question is a very general one.
Just be aware of the difference between severance pay and long service leave. Refer to Chapter 8 of the FDH Guide for the definitions.
Severance pay kicks in after 2 years of service, whereas Long Service Leave kicks in after 5 years of service. Note after the requisite time period has elapsed, you pay one or the other, NOT both. The calculation is the same for both.
