Employing Full-time helper

We are looking to employ a full-time helper from the end of April. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to process the paper work? Should we start looking now or is it too soon? We would prefer to employ someone who is already in Hong Kong and has been recommended by their employer. Does it make any difference to the application procedure if the helper has finished their contract as opposed to their employer having to leave HK mid contract?

Thanks for that, I'll speak to immigration. I was under the impression that it would take several weeks to process a visa once we found a helper that we wanted to employ.
