Helper bringing strangers home!

I really need some advise. My new helper (less than a month) bring friends and so call cousins home without my permission. They do help out with her chores which I think it's inappropriate. Had spoken to her nicely but still she brought her friends/cousins home. I was offended once and told my helper to ask her friends to leave. I receive bad attidute the next 2 days. Is this common or the problem is with me? What can I do? My husband suggest I let her go.

No she cannot bring friends to your house, give her a warning letter, if she does it again terminate her.

Your house is her working place so she must obey the rules.

She's my first helper. It's not her first time bringing friends home. I didn't come down with any rules written black & white. It was only done verbally. Just while I was nursing my baby, my 5 year old came into my room telling me there's 2 aunties! Another auntie sleeping inside the room. I have no idea when she came inside the house. I'm alone with 2 kids. I don't want to create a scene.

Just explain that during the week this is unacceptable. But on Sundays, charge $100 and include a free drink and a cup of noodles.

Your husband is correct, get rid of her, she is breaching the safety of you home and trust, and all this in the first 2 weeks of a contract!. Imagine what she might try to do if she is left alone while you are on vacation. These friends/relatives could have been dismissed for stealing-- you don't know! and she is letting them in your house. No matter whats she says is the reason for them being there, ie looking for work etc, it is still not allowed, they could be in HK illegally.

In fact if you read the rules I have attached she may even be eligible for instant dismissal

If you need an FDH in future, only take one who comes preferably with very good references, from a last employer you can speak to, maybe someone who is leaving HK. Make a list of all the requirements you as a family need in a helper.

Make some rules, and make sure the next helper obeys them, helpers are there to help, not 'walk all over you',

I am sorry this has happened with your first employee, but it might be an idea, if you print off a set of HK Imm rules, so you know and have easy reference to what a helper can do, and cannot do. If they know you are a rookie employer, lots will take advantage, and bend the rules to suit themselves.

Give her a written warning x1, date it and make sure she signs it (this can be retrospective letting her know it is not OK to bring strangers to the house).


If she does it again, you can a) call the police as she is bringing strangers illegally into your home (then dismiss her without notice) or b) dismiss her without notice with a letter as to why you are doing so counter signed by her, with her fligth back to Phils or Indonesia


You don't have to put up with this and you do not have to walk around on egg shells in your own home because of her


If you follow the above advice you don't need to pay her her 1 month's notice (when you give her a month for free and she's already left your home) as she doesn't a dime extra.
