Food /Travel allowance

My Helpers contract is finished and we are not renewing, so I am trying to sort out how much I should pay her. I know I have to pay an amount for food and travelling, but I don't know how much it should be, anyone got any ideas?

Did you not provide her with all the meals? Was she a live-in or live-out? If she lived in, and got all her meals from you, then you don't have to pay her a food allowance. That is only for helpers who do not get any food from their employers. If that were the case, then the allowance is $300 @ month, and is usually paid with the salary.

At the end of contract, you only need to give her a one-way ticket home to her original home, as stated on the contract. You can either buy the ticket and give her the tix, or give her the equivalent amount in cash (which is what all helpers prefer). Just make sure you write down the amount on the letter of termination so she can't say you didn't give her the travel allowance. The only other payment is holiday pay (if you have any holiday owing) and long-service leave pay (if she's been with you for more than 6 years). No other payments, I don't think.....

Meals were covered during her contract. But I am under the impression that you should pay money for food or subsistence whilist they travel home for the number of days they are travelling, what I couldn't remember is how much this usually is per day.

I asked the same question at Labour Department. If you are talking about the day she leaves Hong Kong and back to her home country which only takes her 1 day, then you pay for 1 day. HK$100 per day. Of course you can pay her more if you think it's necessary.
