Hi there, I see on the gov calendar that Dec. 25th is a statutory holiday. I was just wondering if you tend to give your helper extra time off during the Xmas holidays? Thanks!

ldsllvn> cara is right. The statutory holiday is either the Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day - it's at the option of the employer and this applies not just to FDHs.

Looking at my calendar for 2007 I thought the Winter Solstice this year was 22/12/07

Yes, either the winter solstice or Dec 25th. But personally we give at least 3 days, xmas is family time and we don't really want our helper around. He goes and stays with his family who are also in HK.
