I just confirmed with one of our staff who has been working in an employment agency for many years and she says that employers must supply insurance for their helper..it is the law!

You will have to ask that of the insurance company or read the fine print, is there a handling fee for terminating the policy early? It may be possible to have the new employee covered but you would surely have to notify the company anyway as the names and personal details will have to be changed. If you are only talking about a policy of $300 per annum then I think the handling fee would take up most of that anyway. Remember it is as important to ask the sales person what is NOT covered as what is covered so that you know before any expensive treatments are started what is the portion not covered and also it may change your mind to buy a more comprehensive policy.

Has anyone submitted a helper claim to QBE? Was the claim processed promptly? Thank you.

I've just simply sent the original copy of the clinical receipt to QBE, then I received the chq after 10 days. It's smooth!

Last year my husband's secretary picked the Insurance for our helper and it is with AXA. It has just come up for renewal, so I am thinking maybe I should look at some other policies too this time! The premium is around 800 HKD but I don't know what is covered. Any other advice on Helper insurance?

helper insurance should also cover accidental death - such as flying the body home, and other things which won't be covered by the local clinics, such as flights home if they become incapacitated thru accidents or illness and long term health care.
