annual leave

How much annual leave are maids supposed to get?

If I recall correctly, it is a pathetically small two weeks for every two-year contract. But does two weeks mean 10 days, 12 days, or 14 days.

And what about after the first year if they're forced to leave HK because they didn't leave between contracts? How many day's leave are they entitled to--5 days, 6 days, 7 days....?

They are entitled to 7 days paid leave each year for the first 2 years, then increases one day a year after that. You can give them as much unpaid leave as you want, you can give them as much paid leave as you want come to that, but 7 days is the legal minimum. My helper goes back for 3 weeks each summer, and I have told her she can go at christmas too to see her kids if she pays for her own ticket, but she's not willing to.

thanks cd.

7 days each year for the first 2 then 1 day extra for every year of service. sounds an awful lot. after working for me for 10 years, she'll be eligible for 15 days leave just like the minimum most people get in HK.

i don't think that 7 days a year for the first two and then one day extra for every year of service sounds like an awful lot at all.

15 days per year after 10 years of service seems to underappreciate 10 years of loyalty, from my perspective.

green - we have always followed the 7 days translates to 8 ourselves, but i do not know what the official rules state.

thanks for the clarification, FOTH, actually i am a NES.

unfortunately it seems there are many people who post on these threads that would sincerely believe their helper was not entitled to 15 days AL, glad outdoors isn't one of them.
