I will be moving to HK in a few weeks so I just wanted to get an idea of what we should provide our live in domestic worker?
Basic items are:
- bed
- cabinet to store her things
- linens etc.
I was more curious about other things such as:
- television?
- cd/dvd player?
Are these other things standard items that you would give to your DH to use?

Hi Jbebeb,
Thanks so much for your advice on this. I will take this into consideration when hiring a new DH. In Guangzhou, we don't have a live in DH so it is a bit different but it all depends on the type of DH you get. Some are really good and honest and some will take every little inch you give them. Either way, I tend to give the DH a bit of room to build trust but am always careful to not screw myself.

hi vuster
besides the basic items, we also provided televisions and a cd player. we also gave our employers OCTOPUS cards to make transport easier.
fans and dehumidifiers, toilet paper, facial tissue, pillows, curtains, shower curtains for their bathroom, towels.
while jbebeb offers one slant on the television/dvd route, we have chosen to go with the television and dvd player as part of the room, rather than being the helper's property. that way, she gets to use it from the moment she arrives. if she were to leave we would probably give it to her, but when she started, we said that the room was equipped with the television and dvd player.

I think sometimes the things you can provide for your DH is depending on the status of the employer. How can you provide her a TV if her room is too small to fit even a 14inches TV, or if she is sharing a room with your kid, thats depends on the situation. But somehow the important things you must provide are the toiletries and food, those are the basic things they need.
vuster, better check the contract so that you will have your own idea.

thank you all for your thoughts. it seems there are various versions of "expat" whether it be you're on a package or not. it 's good to get a varying perspective from this forum.
I do appreciate it and will definitely be reading that contract very closely.
Cheers.
