With all the negative things that are said about helpers, I was wondering do any of your helpers buy you things? Not big things, but just little things.
For example, my helper is taking a vaction day and so will not be back on Monday. We are out of fruit (not that it bothers me), but this morning she went out and bought fruit on her own, with her own money for the house and refuses reimbursement.
What nice things does your helper do for you, to let you know, she thinks you are "A" okay?

DVD's and small gifts for the chidren bought on her day off (sock and underthings if she think they need them). Birthday presents for me and husband and children as well as Christmas presents, she remembers cards and flowers for me for our wedding anniversary and gets the children flowers to give me for Mother's day - helps them to make and ice cakes for special occassions. She even got small gifts the last two christmases for our house guests. She is also excellent at picking up anything we need that she thinks I may forget like detergent/fruit/bread/milk and we reimburse her. Honest as the day is long, a super hard worker, procative and motivated. We are very fortunate to have her work for us.

Ness, as the Martha Stewart of asiaxpat and DH's advice, you deserve a brilliant helper and it is probably your wise ways that has brought out the absolute best in your DH!

We give our helper a bonus at Christmas plus a gift from the children, a gift on her birthday, another small sum of money for CNY.
And, if I'm picking up flowers for the house I usually get a small bunch of something for her as well.

I gave my previous DH X'mas, B'day gifts which was something she really required. I bought her clothes, lotions, a wallet, etc as gifts fo rno special occasion. She was a good DH & then later changed. I tried to figure her out, but in the end gave up on her.
I have a new DH & I hope she stays good. I am weary of buying her pressies though.....

my helper has been with us for 35 years. she is a human diamond. she not only takes care of my family but also my cousins, my friends when they hv had their babies, their homes when they go on holidays and refuses payments or gifts saying will you pay your auntie? she adores and worships my children and my nephews and nieces. when my daughter went away from home for the first time to university, instead of going home for her holidays, she went to the university town to see for herself how my daughter was living in the sority house and managing for herself. just to talk to them, she has pestered me and hs now mastered the use of computers and chats to them regularly on yahoo messenger and shows them on the webcam whenever she cooks their fave dishes.
she knits, she makes quilts, she is a good electrician, she is good handy-woman.
i have educated her children and they are doing uproariously well as doctor, lawyer, engineer and psychiatrist. she still refuses to go and live with any of them.
she says you will be alone lah. i am also alone. so we will be together here.
god bless anna

my gem of anna is a PR. an automatic PR since she married a HK guy. it was years ago and immigration rules were straight forward. sadly though since 8 years anna is a widow.
i was brought up by straight laced parents and grandparents and am a law abiding citizen of whichever country i have lived in. i would not even in my dreams think of breaking or bending any rules.
i wanted to share the goodness of a DH when so many women are faced with sloppy, crappy, weepy, devious, money-minded, helpers.
Hip Hip Hooray !! 3 cheers for Anna
